Section 1

• Sew together 1-1 and 1-2 (Creating Unit 1:2)
• Sew together 1-3, 1-4, 1-5, and 1-6 (Creating Unit 3:6)
• Sew together Unit 1:2 and Unit 3:6 to complete Section 1

Section 2

• Sew together 2-1 and 2-2 (Creating Unit 1:2)
• Sew together 2-3, 2-4, and 2-5 (Creating Unit 3:5)
• Sew 2-6 to Unit 3:5 (Creating Unit 3:6)
• Sew together 2-7, 2-8, and 2-9 (Creating Unit 7:9)
• Sew together 2-10 and 2-11 (Creating Unit 10:11)

Now you can sew the following units together…

• Sew together Unit 1:2 and Unit 3:6 (Creating Unit 1:6)
• Sew together Unit 7:9 and Unit 10:11 (Creating Unit 7:11)
• Sew together Unit 1:6 and 7:11 to complete Section 2

Section 3

• Sew together 3-1 and 3-2 (Creating Unit 1:2)
• Sew together 3-3, 3-4, 3-5, and 3-6 (Creating Unit 3:6)
• Sew together Unit 1:2 and Unit 3:6 to complete Section 3

Section 4

• Sew together 4-1 and 4-2 (Creating Unit 1:2)
• Sew together 4-3, 4-4, and 4-5 (Creating Unit 3:5)
• Sew 4-6 to Unit 3:5 (Creating Unit 3:6)
• Sew together 4-7, 4-8, and 4-9 (Creating Unit 7:9)
• Sew together 4-10 and 4-11 (Creating Unit 10:11)

Now you can sew the following units together…

• Set aside 6-1; we’ll return to it in a moment

• Sew together 6-1 and Unit 2:3 (Creating Unit 1:3)
• Sew together 6-4, 6-5, and 6-6 (Creating Unit 4:6)
• Sew together Unit 4:6 and 6-7 (Creating Unit 4:7)
• Sew together 6-8, 6-9, and 6-10 (Creating Unit 8:10)
• Sew together 6-11 and 6-12 (Creating Unit 11:12)

Now you can piece the eight sections of the Sapphire together….

• Sew together Section 1 and Section 2 (Creating Quadrant 1:2)
• Sew together Section 3 and Section 4 (Creating Quadrant 3:4)
• Sew together Section 5 and Section 6 (Creating Quadrant 5:6)
• Sew together Section 7 and Section 8 (Creating Quadrant 7:8)
• Sew together Quadrant 1:2 and Quadrant 3:4
• Sew together Quadrant 5:6 and Quadrant 7:8
• Now sew together the two halves of your Sapphire block along the central diagonal seam, careful to match the criss-crossing central seams
