“Elizabeth” Corrections

There are 2 pieces in Section 13 (13-69 and 13-71) that list an old color code: “BLK”. You’ll notice that there is no color code listed in the pattern for “BLK”.  The correct code for these pieces is “L”.  Depending on which color gemstone you are making, please use the fabric color associated with the “L” color code.

Birthstone Series Corrections

During the course of designing and writing the Birthstone Series, some inaccuracies slipped through the testing process. Listed below are those that I want to be sure you’re aware of.  I’ve indicated when corrections have been made to newly printed versions. You will know you have a newly printed version if your freezer paper pattern lists “REVISION  9/2018” on the edge.

Amethyst (February)

If your pattern is missing a freezer paper template, please click here to send me a note via my Contact form and I’ll send you a replacement via Priority Mail immediately. Thank you!

Note: The following issue has been corrected in patterns that have the phrase “REVISION  9/2018” on its edge. The Amethyst freezer paper template is not quite 17″ square. Here’s the simple solution: on the Amethyst freezer paper template, add a ¼” border around all four sides of the block to give you plenty of wiggle room to trim it up later. Then extend the facet lines to the new edge. Once your block is assembled, you can trim it down to 17 ½”. Click here to view a short video demonstrating the easy fix!

Diamond (April)

The Piece Plan for the Diamond has been updated to help you better sew the heart shapes together with the black background pieces. Click here to go to the corrected online Piece Plan for the Diamond.

Note: The following issue has been corrected in patterns that have the phrase “REVISION  9/2018” on its edge.  The Diamond freezer paper template is not quite 17″ square. Here’s the simple solution: on the Diamond freezer paper template, add a ¼” border around the TOP and LEFT sides of the block to give you plenty of wiggle room to trim it up later. (Leave the bottom and right edges untouched.) Then extend the facet lines to the new edge. Once your block is assembled, you can trim the TOP and LEFT sides down to 17 ½”. Emerald (May)

Two fabric measurements are too tight for the pieces that need to be ironed to them.  Agave (Light Green) should be cut at 12” x 8”. Black should be cut at 18” x 6”.

Ruby (July)

Peridot (August)

Note: The following issue has been corrected in patterns that have the phrase “REVISION  9/2018” on its edge. The fabric measurements for three Peridot colors are incorrect. The correct measurements are listed below. The Shop Kit layout and cutting instructions for Peridot have been updated and you can access that document by clicking here.

G4 – Dk Olive Green (Painter’s Palette “Kelp” 121-114) should be 9″ x 9″

G1 – Apple Green (Painter’s Palette “Apple Green” 121-076) should be 12″ x 12″

C1 – Pale Yellow (Painter’s Palette “Citrus Yellow” 121-063) should be 12″ x 9″

Peridot’s Facet 1-6 has an incorrect color code. The correct color code is G2 (Bright Green; Painter’s Palette color is “Mint”). Please make the correction on your freezer paper and paper templates.

Peridot’s Facet 3-16 has an incorrect color code. The correct color code is G5 (Dark Forest Green; Painter’s Palette color is “Woodsman”). Some patterns have been manually corrected. If not, please make the correction on your freezer paper and paper templates.

Peridot’s Facet 4-11 has an incorrect color code. The correct color code is G5 (Dark Forest Green; Painter’s Palette color is “Woodsman”). Some patterns have been manually corrected. If not, please make the correction on your freezer paper and paper templates.

Pink Tourmaline (October)

Note: The following issue has been corrected in patterns that have the phrase “REVISION  9/2018” on its edge. The Pink Tourmaline freezer paper template is not quite 17″ square. Here’s the simple solution: on the Pink Tourmaline freezer paper template, add a ¼” border around all four sides of the block to give you plenty of wiggle room to trim it up later. Your gem will now be floating inside the block, rather than touching the edges. As a result, you will only have to cut 4 background pieces, rather than 8. Once your block is assembled, you can trim it down to 17 ½”. Click here to view a short video demonstrating the easy fix!

Citrine (November)

Note: The following issue has been corrected in patterns that have the phrase “REVISION  9/2018” on its edge. I inadvertently created a set-in seam between Facets 2-20 and 2-21. Click here to go to Citrine’s Piece Plan for instructions on how to correct it.

Tanzanite (December)

The yardage sizes for the B4 (River) and B5 (Patriot) color codes are not large enough to hold all the facets. B4 (River) should be cut 18” x 21” (fat quarter). And B5 (Patriot) should be cut 18” x 12”. These revised yardages should give you plenty of room to place your facets and cut them out.  Please click here to get the updated Cutting/Layout instructions for Block of the Month yardages for 12 and 24 participants.

Note: The following issue has been corrected in patterns that have the phrase “REVISION  9/2018” on its edge. The color code for facets 3-21 and 4-21 should be L3 (Royal Purple). They currently indicate that their color code is L4…but there is no L4 in the chart. Please use L3. Thanks!

Note: In the video below, I demonstrate the fix to the five gemstones that are a smidge shy of 17″ square. Please note that newly printed patterns (“Revision 9/2018”) have been enlarged to 17” square.

Note: Please keep in mind that these corrections apply only to the original patterns. I have incorporated changes to every Birthstone Series pattern since then. If you’re pattern includes the notation “REVISION 9/2018” on the side of the freezer paper pattern (next to the name of the Birthstone) you do not need to make any of these adjustments!

Quilting Cruise with MJ Kinman (Adventures by Michelle)

IN-PERSON

Join me on my very first QUILTING CRUISE! We’ll spend this 8-night/9-day Royal Caribbean cruise line adventure visiting beautiful spots in the Caribbean like St. Croix, St. Thomas, San Juan (Puerto Rico), and Coco Cay. While at sea, I’ll show you how to make 1 of 2 special quilts I designed just for this trip: “Caribbean Holiday” and “Caribbean Roses”. Both projects are twin-size quilts featuring large and small gemstone blocks.

The full kit is included in the fee, and I’ll bring a variety of backgrounds and embellishments for you to choose from to customize your quilt. Plus you’ll have lots of downtime for free sewing to your hearts content!

Michelle and I sat down to chat about our destinations, the projects, and more. Click the image below to listen in.
