Now let’s piece the diamond heart sections together, along with the black background pieces…

We’ll first piece the LEFT half of the diamond together (Sections 1 – 4, and background pieces 9-1 and 9-2)

• Sew together Section 1 and Section 2
• Sew together Section 3 and Section 4
• Sew together Section 1:2 and Section 3:4 to form the left side of the heart shape
• Take your fabric pencil and extend the hash marks from the edge of the freezer paper into the seam allowance along the edge of the half heart shape
• Again with your fabric pencil, extend the hash marks along the curved edge of 9-1 and 9-2 (the black background pieces)
• With your scissors, clip the curved edge of 9-1 and 9-2 (black background) approximately 1/4″ apart
• Remove the freezer paper from the half heart shape, as well as from 9-1 and 9-2
• Align the hash marks of 9-1 with the adjoining marks of Sections 1, 2 and 3, easing the seam as you go. Pin generously.Align the hash marks of 9-2 with the adjoining marks of Sections 3, easing the seam as you go. Pin generously
  Now we’ll first piece the RIGHT half of the diamond together (Sections 5 – 8 and background pieces 9-3 and 9-4)
• Sew together Section 5 and Section 6
• Sew together Section 7 and Section 8
• Sew together Section 5:6 and 7:8 to form the right side of the heart shape
• Take your fabric pencil and extend the hash marks from the edge of the freezer paper into the seam allowance along the outside of the heart shape
• Again with your fabric pencil, extend the hash marks along the curved edge of 9-3 and 9-4 (the black background pieces)
• With your scissors, clip the curved edge of 9-3 and 9-4 (black backgrounds) approximately 1/4″ apart
• Remove the freezer paper from the right side of the heart shape, as well as from 9-3 and 9-4
• Align the hash marks of 9-3 and 9-4 with the adjoining marks of the right side of the heart shape, easing the seam as you go. Pin generously.
• Now sew together the LEFT and RIGHT side of the diamond, matching along the hash marks and paying close attention to align the seam where the heart facets meet the black background.
