I’ve re-designed my heart-shaped “Annie” quilt for a special collaboration with the Quilts of Valor Foundation. The new name for this collaboration project is “Honor & Courage”, a tribute to the many men and women who have been awarded the Purple Heart medal. Quilts of Valor will receive 20% of the profits of every pattern and fabric bundle sold.
My inspiration for the pattern is Army Lt. Annie G. Fox, the first woman to be awarded the Purple Heart medal in 1942 for her heroic service during the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
The dimensions of the “Honor & Courage” quilt are larger than the original “Annie” design: 61” x 72”. “Honor & Courage” is only available in the purple colorway. I’ve used Paintbrush Studio Fabrics’ line of solids (Painters Palette Solids) for the fabric kits.
Members of the Quilts of Valor Foundation can receive a coupon code for a 20% discount by logging into the Member Dashboard at the QOVF website (www.qovf.org). Not only will you be joining thousands of others to support a wonderful cause, but you’ll also gain access to the Member Dashboard and the 20% coupon code.
I like to call this technique “traditional quilting using freezer paper as your templates.” This is NOT foundation paper piecing! You won’t have to sew to paper. You won’t use the flip-and-sew method, and you won’t have to spend precious time plucking paper out of the back of our quilt when it’s finished. Instead, if you can put two pieces of fabric right sides together with a quarter-inch seam allowance (and I know you can!), you can make this quilt.
Shine on!
(Fabric kit sold separately. Pattern will begin shipping December 16.)
